BRYCE DOT VC: Everybody Hates Every Redesign Ever

brycedotvc:

Long before I was investor and board member at Bitly I was a user of the product. I loved it for it’s simplicity, but I invested because of a sea change in behavior that’s reshaping the web. A change from a robot’s view of the web as a series of linked static pages to a realtime networked web that…

I agree I usually dislike redesigns, having to relearn how to navigate the site. However, I appreciate the risk companies take to implement their vision, growing and providing a better service.

Failure

msg:

The act of failing shouldnt be seen as a flaw in ones self but more of a flaw in hypothesis and approach.

The goal to some extent should be to fail as quick as possible so you can get closer to being on the right track.

Dont apologize for failures either.

Own your failures and create an action plan to make sure you dont make the same mistake again.

As the Facebook kids like to say: “Move Fast and Break Things”

I like your style!

TWELVE CITIES PROJECT: You're only limited by your imagination

nickarnett:

On a beautiful day like today, it’s only natural to walk to lunch and sneak outside every opportunity you get. So, I decided to do just that.

As I stepped out of my Main Street office this afternoon to grab some coffee, something caught my attention - Park Place (most recently L’Asiantique),…

Great thoughts on how to infuse that child like mentality to effectively make change.

I’m blogging, I’m blogging, I’m really blogging! Here’s why…

A mentor and good friend of mine, Steve Franks, has urged me to blog about my startup experiences many times, however I always felt that I didn’t have much to say or wasn’t credible enough to be taken seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I have gotten the sudden urge before and wrote about the experiences of launching my first startup, Bee Mobile, a coupons on demand text messaging program, but I guess I never had the balls to to push publish.

It’s not like I’m a stranger to the blogosphere, my Google reader is full of blogs from entrepreneurs like Chris Dixon and Jason Cohen, and VC’s like Brad Feld and Mark Suster. Most of whom have written about the importance of blogging and how it has impacted both their personal and professional lives, not to mention the posts written specifically on how to get started blogging yourself. I’ve read many of those post over and over, all of which were interesting, helpful and well directed, but there was something about David Lerner’s series, ‘What Every Student Entrepreneur Needs to Know to Succeed”  that just clicked with me and turned the switches on.

So, I’m taking his advice and doing my “What About Bob” routine, making “baby steps” towards creating this blog into something of value for not only me, but hopefully for others . You can look forward to future post about startups, startup communities, specifically Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Bloomington, student entrepreneurship, sports and I’ll be sure to throw in some curves balls here and there.

So, I’ve done it, I sat down, turned on Absolute Radio and wrote this post. There’s not a lot of depth to it, but I took my first baby step.  In the upcoming weeks there will be new post describing, making fun of, and hopefully shining some insight on my experiences and thoughts on the aforementioned topics, in addition to post related to my current startup for sports teams and their fans.

One last thought, “If I sat down and wrote this simple, grammatically incorrect post, to get started, why can’t you.

I’m blogging, I’m blogging, I’m really blogging, or was it “I’m sailing, I’m sailing, I’m really sailing”!

Bijan Sabet: Are venture capitalists more loyal to their entrepreneurs or limited partners?

bijan:

Over the last few weeks I’ve had a number of conversations with VCs about which is more important, their duty to founders they invest in or their limited partners (investors in VC funds).

The two things that prompted these recent discussions: Twitter’s Innovator’s Patent Agreement (which we…

Roger and Mike's Hypernet Blog: What Is the Hypernet?

thehypernet:

by Roger McNamee

In December 2010 I decided to open source my investment strategy, in the form of a slide show and presentation called Ten Hypotheses for Tech Investing. When you open source ideas, you expose them to improvement. I presented the Ten Hypotheses to many smart people,…

I’m curious to see how HTML 5 is going to open up the door for streaming video content. Whether that be premium content from publishers like TimeWarner and just the average user.

BRYCE DOT VC: Agreeable Guys* Finish Last

brycedotvc:

A few weeks back, David Hornick wrote a great piece in Wired UK titled, Nice Guys Finish First. Eventually. In it, he talks of his life’s goal as that of being a successful VC without having to be a jerk. He cites a recent study which paints the picture of a successful leader as someone…
